Frequently Asked Questions — Exercise with Erica, Alexandria VA

Everything you wanted to ask before your first class.

What if I'm out of shape — will I be able to keep up?

Absolutely. Every exercise I teach has a modification. One of my students, Randy S., started at over 70 years old and was amazed at the muscle he put on. The class is genuinely for all fitness levels — beginners, people returning from injuries, people who haven't exercised in years. All you have to do is show up. I handle the rest.

I've tried virtual classes before and never stayed consistent. How is this different?

Because you're not watching a video — you're in class with me, live. I can see you. I know your name. When you're going through the motions, I'll call you out — in the best possible way. My students consistently tell me that the structure of a live scheduled class, with someone who actually knows them, is the only thing that's ever made them consistent. One student put it perfectly: 'she calls you out but in a good way to encourage you to keep going.'

How do I know you're qualified to teach me?

I've been teaching fitness classes continuously since 2001 — 24 years. I started at Fairlington Community Center as part of Arlington County Parks & Rec, trained by the instructor who came before me, and took over the class when she retired. My students' loyalty speaks louder than any credential: students stay with me for 13 to 20 years. You don't build that kind of retention if you don't know what you're doing.

What equipment do I need?

Two sets of weights — a lighter pair (2–5 lb) and a heavier pair (8–10 lb), a mat, and water. That's it. No specialty gear, no gym membership, no commute. You exercise from your living room.

What if I miss a class?

There are no refunds for missed classes. If you need to miss a session, contact me directly about makeup options. I do my best to accommodate — but the session packs are priced based on attendance, so I ask that you plan ahead when you can.

Can I try one class before committing?

I don't currently offer a single-class trial. The entry point is a session pack — and the lowest commitment is $96 for 8 sessions, which works out to $12 per class. Most people who try one pack come back. If you have questions before you commit, email me or call me directly. I'm happy to talk.

How does the Zoom class work?

Purchase a session pack through Acuity Scheduling. You'll receive a Zoom link for your class time. On class day, open Zoom, show up with your equipment, and turn your camera on. I lead the class live — same as if you were in a room with me, just from wherever you are.

Is this class appropriate for people over 60?

It's one of the things I'm most proud of. Kathy B. started at 60 and told me her muscles were in the best shape they'd ever been after six months. Randy S. started at over 70. Age 13 and up — all fitness levels. Modifications are available for every exercise. The class works because I know my students and I adapt to where they are.
